COURSE DESCRIPTION

This qualification at LMSC reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for acquiring targeted skills in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage, and gaming. The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Delivery Mode:

This course is delivered using the following delivery modes:

  • Face-to-face mode in the classroom and the commercial training kitchen
  • Structured distance learning mode which will be conducted using technology-based tools (zoom) to facilitate communication
  • Mandatory work placement in an approved work placement venue

Duration:

This course is delivered using the following delivery modes:

  • This course will be delivered over 78 weeks, including 60 weeks of training and assessment spread over 6 terms of 10 weeks each and 18 weeks of holidays.

LMSC has the following course entry requirements:

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old).
  • Completed Australian Year 12 or its overseas equivalent or an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Certificate III or higher

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that LMSC can confirm they are equivalent to IELTS 6.

In addition, all students who are undertaking this qualification must have the following resources while in class:

  • A laptop or computer that is installed with Microsoft Office or similar.

Course Credit

You can apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in our International Student Handbook, which is available at www.lmsc.edu.au.

If you are granted course credit, this will affect your course fees as well as the duration of your course. We will advise you in writing of changes to fees or course duration as a result of the credit. You will also be issued with a new Confirmation of Enrolment.

The first day of each course will include orientation and induction. Orientation will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.

Training and assessment information

Students are required to attend 14 hours of face-to-face training and assessment per week plus 6 hours of scheduled distance learning per week. Additional self-directed study is expected to be approximately 5 hours a week.

Term 1 will involve classroom-based training and assessment and from term 2 onwards, training and assessment will also be completed in the commercial training kitchen. This course includes work placement hours of 200 (20 hours per week over 10 weeks) during term 6. These hours are part of the course and must be completed by the students within the term. Assessment will occur through a variety of methods, including projects incorporating role-plays, case studies, observations, and short answer questions.

Satisfactory course progress and attendance is very important in order to meet visa requirements. Please read the International Student Handbook carefully for more information. You will also be provided with further information about course progress and attendance requirements at your orientation.
